Our Work On Restoring The Sydney Opera House
Sydney Opera House – Heritage Timber Restoration
At JW Polishing, we’re honoured to be a trusted restoration partner of the Sydney Opera House, contributing to the ongoing preservation of this iconic and heritage-listed landmark.
Our team has carried out extensive work across the venue, restoring some of its most visible and historically significant timber features. All work has been completed in close collaboration with Opera House staff, adhering strictly to heritage guidelines and conservation standards.
Our work has included:
- Restoration of internal timber bar areas
- Refinishing box office countertops and serving areas
- Full restoration of Vip dressing room doors, lockers, and internal cabinetry and doors — including acoustic sound-deadening stage doors
- Green room furniture restoration — including lounges and timber tables
- Timber floor repairs and polishing work within the Joan Sutherland Theatre
- Restoration of timber floors surrounding the grand organ in the Opera Theatre
- And more
This work has been carried out both onsite and in our workshop, depending on the scale and complexity of each piece. Working within such a high-profile and operational public venue presents unique challenges — from navigating live performance schedules to working discreetly around staff and visitors, often after hours or overnight.
Every element we’ve restored at the Sydney Opera House has been approached with the utmost care, using a blend of traditional methods and modern finishes to meet the standards required of a building of this cultural and architectural significance.
